How to Choose the Right LCD TV For You

Selecting the right television for your home or office is important, it is likely that it will be a permanent solution unless technology takes a giant leap, it's safe to say that when you buy one of these things, it's here to stay. And here are some real handy points that should cover about everything there is to know before committing to the purchase.

Things to know about the technical specifications of the TV;

Plasma or LCD - The plasma television differs from the LCD, the primary difference is that viewing angle is slightly wider on the plasma, also power consumption is usually higher on the plasma, they radiate more heat but render the colour black far better than an LCD can.Contrast Ratio - Measured as a ratio, this is effectively how many shades of a particular colour the screen is capable of displaying. 5000:1 would mean that the television can display 5000 shades of a colour.720p, 1080i or 1080p - this is the resolutions that the screen can display, essentially in the order we've mentioned, the higher the number, the better!Refresh Rate - This is the frequency speed in which the screen can change to the next frame, the higher the refresh rate, the smoother the picture can be, also eliminating motion blur. The minimum refresh is 50Hz but to avoid all motion blur, the suggested frequency is 600+ Hz.

Evaluate your room before you buy;

Size of Screen vs. Distance from screen - The guide for distance from the screen should be at least 3 times the diagonal measurement of the screen you're looking at; so if you're looking for a 40" then your seating position should be around 120" away which is 12ft.Viewing angle - If your seating arrangement causes potential viewers of the TV to be looking at a slightly wider angle, opt for a plasma over the LCD.Night viewing or Day viewing - You should work out if you're more likely to be watching the TV in darkness over lightness, as the plasma renders much deeper black colour than an LCD.

That said and done, happy shopping.

Be sure not be sold by the salesperson in store, make sure that the TV you get suits your application by the guidelines stated above. The one thing that we did not mention is the furniture aspect and overall aesthetic look of the TV. One should check the TV fittings and fixtures that accompany the TV or the potential of TV cabinets which can be purchased anywhere including the store the TV was sold in.
